Weekly Reflection 1

Week 1

This week was not really what I expected it was going to be. I didn’t expect to buy our own wood at all, which actually makes the experience so much better. That was my first learning experience from the week. I learned that you pay for the word per foot, and that there are a lot more species of wood than I originally thought. I’ve been having a pretty good time working in the woodshop so far. I like it because I can listen to music and make cool things out of wood for as long as I want. I also like it because I get to hang out with my best friend David Netburn all day long. However, there have been some moments where I felt a little stressed because the plan changed and we started to improvise. But now, I feel good about our improvisations in response to the sudden change in plans. I feel good because we made some pretty cool looking cutting boards. Another surprise that wasn’t expected, was that we actually got some offers from people asking for specific things. I thought it would be hard to make a bunch of different items, but then I thought that it would be a guarantee to make profit because you know they will buy it, if you don’t screw it up. I’ve been learning a lot in this first week and some of it actually relates to what I’m studying in college during my summer semester. We have to figure out what the best prices are to sell our items in order to make the most amount of money while still being affordable for consumers. This is one of the concepts in microeconomics, which is what I’m studying next year.
After looking at our progress this from this week, I would say we are on a good pace to achieve all of our goals. If we sell all the cutting boards we have made so far, we would already be making at least 200 dollars which is almost have of our goal of 500. I think we can definitely complete this goal, if we keep staying on task and making the most of the time in the woodshop. The hardest thing to do in my mind, is managing your time. But, I think Netburn and I have been doing a pretty good job since we have to coordinate with greg when he will be in the woodshop. Overall, I thought it was a very good week and I’m excited for the next one.
